The Role
This is an ambitious role in a fast-growing start-up suited to a candidate who wants to be stretched, work in a high learning environment and is not afraid of hard work. The role of the Operations Manager will report into both the Managing Partner and Operations Partner, manage a virtual team spread between China and the UK, and take full day-to-day responsibility for management and delivery of projects and deliverables. This role is critical to the delivery of high-quality client work and requires a candidate that can combine meticulous attention to detail, flexibility, ingenuity in overcoming obstacles, and excellent management and teaming skills.

It is a team of Chinese and English nationals and is very proud of its business culture which celebrates our diverse cultures and languages – Chinese and English are used interchangeably, ensuring a fluency in idea exchange and collaboration. Their core services are strategy consulting, marketing and sales management, with a particular focus on eCommerce.
DUTIES
- You will assume project management responsibility for all client deliverables and projects, managing multiple projects concurrently and coordinating across teams to ensure quality standards are kept high and we achieve consistent outperformance.
- You will support our Chinese managing partner to coordinate with multiple stakeholders in China and will need to feel at ease taking command and demonstrating authority as you prioritise the delivery of high-quality output for our clients.
- You will manage a small team of staff (English and Chinese), rigorously checking their plans and the quality of their output to ensure that timings are met, quality is high, and provide training and coaching – you will need to bring your colleagues with you and always lead by example.
- You will know the status of all deliverables at all times, tightly project managing, planning mitigations and helping your team to accommodate and align to the fast-moving, often changeable, demands of clients.
- You will have a clear and logical approach to problem solving, and an ability to break down challenges and allocate tasks across staff for completion before reassembling and finalising high quality end products.
- You will need excellent, consulting-level skills on excel and PowerPoint. For excel, you will be expected to have good command of formulae and the ability to do basic modelling. For PowerPoint, you will be expected to be able to create professional, succinct, and powerful presentations that directly get to the point and answer questions logically.
- Written skills in both Chinese and English are particularly important.
- You will be coordinating with teams and suppliers, taking new direction from Partners. You will be the oil in the wheels of this fast-moving company and you will be expected to know every itemised detail for the successful running of the company’s operations.
- Your core responsibility is to give the Managing Partners confidence in your ability to manage and oversee the smooth running of all operations, so they can focus on business growth.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree minimum
- Native Mandarin and fluency (written and spoken) in English (mandatory)
- You have experience working in a consulting environment
- You are meticulous and ready to find fault or challenge the details around you.
- You love order, processes and planning – project planning is second nature to you and you have experience of running multiple projects and constantly juggling deadlines.
- You have experience of managing people, coaching and can drive your team hard while remaining congenial, supportive and a true team player.
- You have worked in English-speaking corporations (mandatory) and have a strong understanding and aptitude for working with Western businesses and within these cultures
- You are excellent at PowerPoint and excel and enjoy pushing yourself to improve all the time.
- You are structured and logical thinker;
- You are very comfortable developing ideas independently and do not require someone to tell you what to do in order to get on with it
- You have worked in consultancy or strategy roles and are comfortable leading projects that consider strategic and non-straightforward problems.
