Pay rate: £300 to £450 per day + Holiday allowance (equivalent to £78,000 to £117,000 per annum)
Start: Immediate
Location: Central London – Hybrid working with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home
Our client is a global leader in e-commerce and technology. They have an exciting opportunity for a VAT contractor to join their specialised VAT advisory team, focusing on international VAT policy issues.
This role will support the team (one director, and two senior managers) to drive several international VAT policy initiatives across the business (including Marketplace, Retail, Digital and cloud solutions), working with tax, finance, public policy, and business teams to shape the company’s response to VAT regulatory developments.
About the team
The International VAT Policy team is part of the VAT advisory team. they are a small but highly specialised and high impact team, working on the most material VAT regulatory issues and related business challenges.
Key job responsibilities
The VAT contractor will be responsible for the following key tasks:
- Developing a deep understanding of the business challenges created by existing VAT rules and new VAT regulatory developments, across the business.
- Reviewing new regulatory developments and pulling out key points for impact analysis.
- Drafting talking points and best practice asks in relation to new regulatory developments, such as marketplace VAT collection and data-sharing rules.
- Horizon scanning for new VAT Regulatory developments in key areas (e.g., marketplace VAT collection rules) and distilling the implications of those for a range of internal stakeholders.
- Drafting reports to senior leadership on the VAT regulatory horizon, business problem statements and strategies to mitigate those.
- Creating reusable resources (e.g., template position papers and business briefing documents) to ensure consistent application of the company’s global strategies and positions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of VAT experience in a large accounting or consulting practice, law firm, or in-house at a blue-chip commercial organisation.
- EMEA VAT Regime experience
- Excellent written and spoken English
Preferred qualifications
- Recognised professional tax qualification (CIOT/ADIT or equivalent), or relevant law degree.
- Experience of working with VAT policy issues and policy makers.
- Exposure to non-EU Vat Regimes would be beneficial (ROW Regions)
- E-Invoicing experience would be highly advantageous.
- Ability to work independently with limited general supervision, effectively prioritising competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and manage changing priorities.
- The ability to persuasively communicate complex and technical concepts and issues to internal and external stakeholders, in writing and verbally
