At this point, most of us are at home now, during our personal time as well as work time. Yes, the introvert in us has dreamed about this day for a thousand years. But little did we know that we would get bored so quickly!
Fear not, we’ve pulled together our hive mind here at ABL Recruitment, to save you from at least two weeks (we’re hoping that in two weeks things are a lot brighter for us all) of boredom, but you have got to keep an open mind.
- Dance, party of one
Okay, hear us out. Once upon a time, we were advised to put socks on our hands, turn the music up and dance. Fine, this was advice on how to make ourselves feel better when having a tough day, but you’ll be surprised at how well this works. Not only does it increase your endorphins through movement and exercise, but the fact that it’s so silly will render you to laughter. Don’t believe us? Give it a try.

- Become a master chef
The difficulty of this can be adjusted depending on how well you can cook already. There are millions of unique recipes you can find online so try to give yourself a bit of a challenge. If you live with other people, you could even get them in on it and try to take it in turns to cook a dish or even meal that pushes you out of your comfort zone. It will be fun to try new food but also a great way to bond with your housemates.

- Childhood throwback
We don’t mean, find a load of old photos of yourself and reminisce about the good old days, though if you wanted to do that, go right ahead. By this we mean, write a list of all your favourite old movies, or movies from your childhood and try to get through as many of those films as you can. With all the new movies coming out every year, we can sometimes be spoiled for choice. Every now and then it’s just nice to watch something familiar and comforting (except Lion King, that film is not comforting at all).

- Vid-e-o games
You don’t have to be a gamer to enjoy a game or two. You don’t have to own the latest console or even a console at all to play video games. With the internet at our fingertips, we now have a massive library of free online games we can play, certainly a great way to pass the time.

- Link-it-In
We tried to find a clever way of saying LinkedIn, and that’s all we could come up with… But in all seriousness, LinkedIn is a powerful way of sharing your brand, so use this time at home to work on improving your profile. Why not do a spruce up of your skills and experiences? Look to see if your work responsibilities have changed or increase, see how you can improve your marketability as well as your company profile’s brand.

- Ice play
We once saw a video of a woman who quit her job suddenly and decided for fun while she figured out her next steps, created various sized and designs of ice balls. You heard it right, ice balls. This gave us an idea. With the summer coming up and the weather starting to warm, it’s never too early to start preparing for an epic sunshine-filled day. Ice-cold drinks make any summer’s day perfect, so why not practice making your very own creative ice? You can use anything clean and hygienic from your house even if you don’t have the fancy fun style ice cube trays. You can also add flavours, fruit or edible flowers to really make them unique.

- Spring clean
With spring right around the corner, it might be time to do some decluttering. We consider this fun because we know some of you really enjoy cleaning and making your home feel fresh. Even if it’s not for you, you are going to have to do it at some point anyway, why not start today? It’s only natural that you’ll have picked up some clutter over the past 12 months, so this time at home gives you an excellent opportunity to freshen up your humble abode.

- Network
Just like what we said about LinkedIn, you now have the opportunity to be able to network online with people you’ve wanted to but have not necessarily had the chance to. Whether it’s a business partnership you’re hoping to forge (in the future!), key connections you want to make or simply there’s been a career person you’ve wanted to reach out to – now’s the time you should do it. People are looking for more and more ways to connect, especially as social distancing is rife, give it a go, you’ll never know who could really use a friend right now – work or otherwise.

- Bored games
Whoever said board games were boring clearly has never played the right board game! There are so many about right now, and we bet you, you have at least one or two hanging around somewhere. Go hunt for it, or even order one from Amazon Prime (depending on which one you get, they can be very affordable and well priced). Feel a little nostalgic by playing Scrabble, Operation or Mousetrap. Or try something new like the 5-second rule, one of the many newly themed Monopoly or even Taboo. Fine, most of these games require more than one player, but you know what! There are some very fun single-player games on the market you just have to look.

- ‘Me’ time
We kept this pretty broad because we know how eclectic people’s interests can be. We absolutely celebrate this. It can be easy to forget to do something you enjoy, so we wanted to be the ones to remind you to go and pick a hobby and do it guilt-free. Don’t be cooped up in your house, thinking that you have nothing to do. There’s plenty to do, you just have to be willing to think outside of the box (without leaving your actual box).
