Pay rate: £18 to £21 per hour + Holiday pay (Equivalent to £37,500 to £43,700 per annum)
Our client is a global technology company. They are looking for technicians who are targeting a career in Data Centre management, Software Development, System Development or Technical projects. The team build and maintain the physical infrastructure that supports Data Centre of devices and in-lab appliances and work closely with software teams to create an effective testing platform. You will be following defined operating procedures to extend, populate and maintain the lab spaces that contain TVs, Set-Top Boxes, Games Consoles, Streaming Sticks, control appliances and their associated hardware components such as power distribution units, cameras and Infra-Red blasters.
The team host 1000s of Living Room devices and expose them through simple APIs that enable developers, testers and non-technical staff to build, enhance, deploy, test and improve Living Room experiences. The data-centre infrastructure team is responsible for the core of the physical device operations that enables these teams to validate the quality of their software on these devices, to ensure we are building delightful experiences for customers.
Key job responsibilities
You will be part of a team that is ultimately responsible for the hardware, facilities and logistical set-up, configuration and maintenance of a data-centre of 1000s of devices that run 24/7 at optimal efficiency. You will be expected to follow health and safety processes and adhere to tight security and quality standards. This will include following processes to accurately install and configure third party devices, computer hardware, racking and cabling infrastructure.
You will work with vendors, third-party manufacturers, and couriers to arrange intake of cutting-edge devices, computer hardware and racking infrastructure and use inventory management tools to record and audit metadata to track the movement of device inventory across multiple data-centre sites and locations.
You will be therefore be required to organize, maintain, and stock control devices to support critical test environments needs from third party devices, prototype devices to computer hardware for troubleshooting and debugging purposes within managed and unmanaged test environments for software development.
You will maintain secure storage solutions within owned premises or external offsite facilities and follows E-Waste procedures to securely dispose of devices and computer hardware that are no longer needed, broken or deprecated.
You will advocate customer obsession and effectively champion quality and efficiency in every phase of operational processes, and run routine maintenance and recovery operations on lab test equipment and provide test/debugging results to support true production trouble-shooting of customer issues.
This position also has a physical component requiring the ability to lift & rack equipment up to 40lbs; it may require working in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines.
Basic qualifications
* Hardware & software troubleshooting experience (server/computer/mobile)
* Experience installing and racking servers, computers or A/V devices
* Basic understanding of network protocols; TCP/IP and L2/L3 technologies
* Basic understanding of network hardware and cabling; Ethernet, Fibre, Switches
Preferred qualifications
* Knowledge of Data Centre infrastructure systems
* Lab operational experience
* Manual Test Execution experience
